Deep Run golf team sweeps second state championship in three years

The Wildcats led the second-place team from Alexandria by 14 strokes.

Deep Run is a champion once again.

Tuesday, the Wildcats claimed their second Group 5A state golf championship in three years at the challenging Magnolia Green, edging second-place Thomas Jefferson (Alexandria) by 14 strokes. Led by Alex Taylor’s even-par 72, Deep Run posted four scores under 79 on Day 2 of the tournament.

Deep Run finished second (two strokes behind Mills Godwin) in the state tournament a year ago after winning the title in 2013. Mills Godwin finished third this year.
