Reminder: Seasonal ice skating rink opens Wednesday night! (UPDATED)

Earlier this month, Mayor Jones announced that the city would be setting up a seasonal skating rink right next to CenterStage (at 6th Street, on the Broad Street side). “RVA on Ice” (as it’s being called) looks like it’s on track to open at 6pm on Wednesday — just in time for Christmas!

  1. Thanks for the plug. It should be a great night. Hope my camera works.

  2. Tonight (only, I believe) admission is free! Skate rentals still apply.

  3. Huh, I haven’t seen that, but it would nice! We’ll see if we can find more info about that.

  4. wait, nbc12 reports the ribbon cutting ceremony is at 6pm today, but here it says it’s open Mon-Wed 4pm-10pm. So does it open at 4pm or 6pm today?

  5. Just called to check. The Grand Opening is at 6pm but the rink WILL open at 4pm. I’m going to update the post now. Great question, Eve!

  6. Ugh ok, saw some things on twitter and called to confirm AGAIN. I talked to the same person and she now says it opens at 6pm. Sorry for the confusion.

  7. Ugh, too. I understand the confusion, but went with my 5 year old at 4:30 and we were BUMMED. At least the rest of the days of the ice rink will be understandable!

  8. Oh I am so sorry, Eve! There was SO much back and forth on this. Very frustrating.

  9. So is it actual ice or the fake plastic stuff. I love ice skating, but the plastic stuff is the worst.

  10. It’s the real stuff. I went with my 4 year old earlier tonight and it was great! There were a good amount of people there, considering it’s Christmas Eve, and even the people who knew how to skate were nice to us novices. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and plan to go again.
