Good Morning, RVA: Oh what a beautiful day!

Good morning, RVA! It’s 29 °F, but don’t let that fool you, my friends. Compared to the last couple of days, today’s a stunner: highs in the upper-40s, a brilliantly clear sky, and absolute no chance of rain. Don’t forget your sunglasses and positive attitudes!

Expect much of the same for Saturday and then a bit of rain come Sunday.

If you were confused by the folks protesting at this week’s city council meeting, WTVR has some answers. The protesters are from a group called Justice 4 RVA, and they held another Black Lives Matter protest down on Broad Street last night.

Schedule some time today to read this week’s Food News–it’s copious, like an American-sized meal. Also schedule some time this Sunday to hit up the Jewish Food Festival, which I forgot about until reading said Food News.

Oscar noms are out! You’ve got until February 22nd to bone up so you can win your office Oscar pool. You’ve got an office Oscar pool, right?

Landing on Mars is hard, and many robots that attempt it are never heard from again–like 2003’s poor, poor Beagle 2. But! In pictures released today, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has found Beagle 2, intact (although improperly unfurled) on the surface of Mars. The BBC has a good write up. SCIENCE!

• Spiders lost in double overtime to George Washington, 70-73. On Saturday, they’ll host Davidson at 6:00 PM.
• Caps vs. Predators tonight at 8:00 PM.
• #17 Rams head to Pittsburgh to take on Duquesne on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
• #2 Wahoos travel to Boston to face the Boston College Eagles also at 2:00 PM on Saturday.
• Hokies continue their absolutely brutal schedule with a trip to #15 UNC, Sunday at 6:30 PM.

Duquesne’s Derrick Colter quietly fights back from cancer

Colter leads the Dukes, who face VCU this weekend, in points per game, assists per game, steals per game, and 3-point percentage. Get ready for some sportsemotions.

Three days later, team physicians looked at the lump in Brooklyn, New York, during the Atlantic 10 tournament. After Duquesne was eliminated, they all consulted with Marks, the deputy director of clinical services for UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.

Marks ordered a biopsy and, on April 22, while Derrick was home for Easter weekend, Dr. Marks called with the diagnosis. Derrick had non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a cancer that attacks the lymphatic system.
