Fire damages storage building at John Marshall High School
More than $30,000 in damage caused during the Sunday afternoon fire.
NBC12 informs us of a suspicious fire at Richmond’s John Marshall High School. The fire occurred in a storage building around 1:45 PM on Sunday afternoon and caused more than $30,000 in damage. The storage building held boxes of documents and records for the High School. Fortunately the fire was limited to the storage area and Monday morning classes were not delayed.
Investigators are checking surveillance video in hopes of getting a suspect or suspects.
A person at the YMCA across the street first noticed the smoke and immediately called 911. Shortly after the first RFD units arrived, investigators determined the fire was not accidental.
“We had the school board there right after us boarding up the building,” said RFD Cpt. Michael Martin in an interview Sunday. “We are looking for the person who did this, so Crime Stoppers is certainly the best place to call with any tips.”
Authorities said the investigation remains active, and any tips can be called in anonymously to Richmond Metro Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
