Press Release:

On Saturday, June 11, 2016, members of the Richmond community are invited to revisit their days as a middle schooler by participating in a water balloon toss, three-legged race, capture the flag, and tug of war – all in the name of supporting local nonprofit Higher Achievement. Higher Achievement is an afterschool and summer academic program for middle school students in Richmond.

The event, Field Day RVA, will feature a beer truck provided by Loveland Distributors, food trucks, music, and a special appearance by guest judge Nutzy the Flying Squirrel. Teams of six to ten participants will compete on the fields at the Bon Secours Redskins Training Center and are also encouraged to dress in a uniform for a team uniform contest.

“Each day we encourage our middle school students to have fun while learning,” said Tyren Frazier, Executive Director of Higher Achievement. “For this year’s Field Day RVA, we’re asking our supporters to do the same. We look forward to a great day of friendly competition on some of the best fields in Richmond in support of Higher Achievement and the community we serve.”

Registration is open and will run until Wednesday, June 8, 2016. Admission is $40.00 per participant and includes an event t-shirt and one beer ticket. Additional information and registration is available at www.FieldDayRVA.org.

About Higher Achievement
Higher Achievement, held after school and during the summer, serves middle school students from schools in Richmond’s Northside and Southside neighborhoods (Henderson Middle School and Boushall Middle School). Higher Achievement is focusing on these two school communities at the request of the Richmond Public Schools School Board. Both schools are Title I schools, with almost 100 percent of students eligible for free and reduced-price meals.

Higher Achievement closes the opportunity gap during the pivotal middle school years. By leveraging the power of communities, Higher Achievement’s proven model provides a rigorous year-round learning environment, caring role models, and a culture of high expectations, resulting in college-bound scholars with the character, confidence, and skills to succeed. Additional information is available at www.higherachievement.org.
