VCU Medical Center ranked best hospital in both RVA and Virginia

According to new national rankings, VCU Medical Center is the best place to go for medical care if you live in RVA or anywhere else in the state.

Today, U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals issue ranked VCU Medical Center as the best hospital in both the Richmond Region and in Virginia. The magazine also ranked four programs of the hospital in the top 50 nationwide: nephrology (kidney disorders), pulmonology, orthopaedic surgery, and urology. Of the nation’s approximately 5,000 hospitals, fewer than 150 are ranked in at least one of 16 medical specialities.

Dr. Sheldon Retchin, CEO of the VCU Health System, said that the highest regional and state ranking “is a fantastic endorsement of our commitment to excellence in patient care” which reflects “our goal of bringing the latest and best therapies, treatments, and cures to our patients and to the community.”

VCU Medical Center also ranked high in these areas:

  • Cancer
  • Cardiology & Heart Surgery
  • Diabetes & Endocrinology
  • Ear, Nose, and Throat
  • Gastroenterology
  • Geriatrics
  • Gynecology
  • Neurology and Neurosurgery
  • Rehabilitation

John Duval, CEO of MCV Hospitals, said that the rankings “affirms that our investments in physicians, staff, and technology, along with our goal of becoming the safest hospital in the country, are showing results.”
