Two rival German grocers to battle it out with forthcoming stores in Short Pump

Aldi and Lidi will face off in the Far West End once both stores are completed.

From WTVR:

Two rival European grocery chains have chosen Short Pump as their latest battleground.

Aldi has 2 acres under contract for a store in Atack Properties’ new Broad Hill Centre development, and plans filed with Henrico County show that Lidl is taking space across West Broad Street in Markel | Eagle Partners’ forthcoming GreenGate project.

If both plans come to fruition, only about half a mile will separate the longtime German competitors.

The two grocers will operate on the same stretch of West Broad Street, just west of Gayton Road, as part of two new planned developments.
