Find out what deal in town saved our bargain hunter over $60 on groceries, and see this week’s best deals on meat, produce, sweets, and more.

Kroger is having a huge “$5 off 10 Participating Items” Mega Event sale this week and next. A lot of the sale items are included in the weekly circular, but there are even more in-store. The best way to find them all is to pick up a Shopping List from a display at the front of the store, which lists all the products. (Some Krogers don’t seem to offer these shopping lists; you could always inquire at Customer Service if you don’t see any)

Almost every product included in the promotion is at a “stock up” sale price, and there are some huge steals if you have the coupons to match.

Here is my loot so far:

10 09 mega sale 1 003

30 items for $22.48, saved $64.08, and I still have more shopping to do.

In this week’s top picks, I’m using the abbreviation “wyb 10” for Mega Event items, and the price I’ve listed includes the extra savings for buying 10 items.

Meat Top Pick

Get Ball Park meat franks for $2 (wyb 10) at Kroger.

Veggie Top Pick

3-lb bags of Naturally Preferred organic russet potatoes $2 at Kroger.

Fruit Top Pick

Want to be one of “those” houses on Halloween? 14-pack bags of mini Sunmaid raisin boxes are $1 at Kroger.

Butter bargains: Mega Event items include Land O Lakes & I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter for $.99, Smart Balance for $1.49 (all wyb 10). You can get the Land O Lakes spreadable butter for $.19 with the $.40 coupon from 10-18 Red Plum insert. That insert also had a “$1 off 2 Smart Balance.”

Staples Top Pick

Del Monte canned tomatoes & Dole mandarin oranges $.49 (wyb 10). (There was a “$1 off 5” coupon for Del Monte in the 9-20 Red Plum insert)

Snacks & Sweets Top Pick

Keebler Fudge Shoppe Cookies are $.99 (wyb 10) at Kroger; use Coupons.com printable coupon for “$1.50 off 2” to make final price $.24 each.

  • Capri Sun 10-packs $1.67 at Ukrop’s

Household Top Pick

I made out like a bandit at Kroger with the “$5 off 10” deal, especially because I combined it with coupons I’ve had. In fact, I’m thinking of going back to tonight to stock up some more, but I don’t have enough room in my house. If only I had an extra pantry and deep freezer!

The shopping list you mention above…is that something different than the circular that you get in the paper? (Which I find so hard to use.)

  2. I know it’s slightly off subject.. But speaking of Capri suns (1.97 @ ukrops) — which is what we send our kids off to school with for lunch. Capri suns has High Fructose Corn Syrup. I know “their is nothing wrong with HFCS” in moderation. But it actually in everything. SO my question is besides water what else are you sending your kids to school with that maybe better???

  3. I would love an extra freezer; not having one definitely limits my stocking up. I’m blessed with a large pantry though!

Yes, the list is different from the sales circular. It’s a little piece of paper showing ALL the products included in the sale. It is easier to scan looking for items you use, although it doesn’t list the prices.

I don’t have the answer for a drink better than water. 100% juice, no sugar added, would be a healthier alternative to Capri Suns right? Welch’s juice is part of the Mega sale, including some of the individual sized Welch’s ($2.49 for a package of 6 or 8 I think)

  4. They do actually make Capri Suns w/ 100% fruit juice, they have no HFCS and they still taste great, and they’re in the same type of packaging.

They also just put the Kraft BBQ on sale 6 for $4 at Kroger, part of their 4 day deal.
