It’s just a few more weeks until RVA gets to partake in the loveliest of musical events: The Richmond Folk Festival. And RVANews is so, so proud to be the official online sponsor for this great event.
So what does that mean for you? Well, we’ve got all the goods on who’s going to be at the festival and what you need to know to make the most of the weekend. In the weeks leading up to the festival (which takes place on October 9th, 10th, and 11th) keep an eye out for…
- a growing list of bios on all of the featured performers (including sound clips, images, and helpful links) that we’ll add to regularly throughout the next few weeks
- Insight from Scott and Taylor Burton, a set of highly-qualified and highly-entertaining brothers who can school us all on what to expect from the festival’s musicians. Scott is a tireless composer and guitarist and the man behind the avant garde jazz group Glows in the Dark. Taylor was formally trained on double bass and guitar and now studies traditional Indonesian music, Carnatic music of South India, and various guitar musics of West and East Africa. He is also currently a student of Carnatic mridangam. (I’m not sure what that means either, but it sounds impressive, doesn’t it?)

Sierra Club Falls of the James is sponsoring a Reedy Creek bicycle ride on Oct. 10. Join us in the morning and then we can ride over to the Festival.
I have not been notified to volunteer as I have every year yet….please send me the link to volunteer at this years event….

Francesca Partch, the stellar volunteer coordinator for all the other Folk Festivals, passed away this year. That may be why you didn’t get notified.
