Nice photo.
Two things: Trains are still the most energy efficient method of transportation (other than bicycling/walking), heads and shoulders above airplane and automobile. As more new train technology comes forward, that efficiency will increase even more.
At one point, before the Civil War, Richmond’s status as the passenger rail ‘gateway to the South’ was allowing it to compete with New York City for the nation’s center of culture and commerce.
What happens if we make passenger rail a top priority again?
