5 things

While our editor is busy recapping all of 2010 for you over the course of this week, Ross The Publisher has stepped in to take care of 5 things. So here they are: a nice little handful of events happening this weekend that will help you ring in 2011 in proper, RVA fashion.

Get ready citizens, it is time to BLOW YOUR MIND: next week is 2011! WHO KNEW? This is a crazy, yet verifiable true, fact. Here’s a handful of New Year’s (and beyond!) events to help transition you to The Teens.

1. New Year’s Eve Bash at the Children’s Museum

Kids! What’s with ’em: they can’t even stay up until midnight? What are they, some kind of inferior beings? Luckily the Children’s Museum is here to save the day! Join them as they “countdown to Noon” — and let’s be honest here, the kids will never know the difference!

  • December 31st (10am to Noon)
  • Children’s Museum of Richmond (2626 W. Broad Street)
  • Free with the cost of admission (usually $8)

2. Carytown New Year’s Eve

Gone are the raucous days of Carytown New Year’s. Why, I remember, back in my day, there were people stacked as high as an elephant’s eye to watch the ball rise up from the roof of the Byrd. Well, things are a bit more subdued this year but the ball will rise again! Maybe head down there, grab some booze in one of the gajillion restaurants, and amble on over to the Byrd for The Rising.

  • December 31st (dinnertime to party o’ clock)
  • Carytown
  • Free! (Well hanging out in the street is free, dinner and drinks probably aren’t. Unless you, like, know someone)

3. Richmond Roots Music Extravaganza

Twenty bones gets you some slammin’ tunes, hors d’oeuvres, and a dang champagne toast at midnight. Music lineup includes: A Good Natured Riot, The Hot Seats, and Jackass Flats. Party starts at 8pm y’all!

  • December 31st (8pm)
  • The Camel (1621 W. Broad Street)
  • $20

4. Balliceaux’s New Year’s Eve Bash

I hear you people like awesome. What if I deliver unto you awesomeness at the cost of exactly nothing? Would your shit be flipped by this offer? WELL PREPARE FOR FLIPPAGE. Hangout with all the incredibly rad dudes and dudettes over at Balliceaux for New Year’s Eve. DO IT.

  • December 31st (11pm)
  • Balliceaux (203 N. Lombardy Street)
  • Free!

5. Wizard of Oz, two ways

Movieland’s got their normal Insomnia Theatre / Movies and Mimosas thing going on this weekend. The feature for both: The Wizard of Oz. It’s like a choose your own adventure book: do you decide to watch it midnight because, seriously, that movie is wacked, as they say? Or, do you watch it on Sunday because you love a good children’s classic? YOU DECIDE.

  • January 1st, 11:30pm / January 2nd, 11am
  • Movieland (1301 N. Boulevard)
  • $5.50 ($4.50 if you’ve got the Criterion Club hook-ups)

None of these sound good? Stop by the RVANews Events Calendar or check out our list of New Year’s Eve Events for more ideas. And be safe out there this weekend!
