Shoplifter arrested after attempting to carjack police officer’s truck

Thief’s luck runs out when she attempts to carjack an off-duty Henrico cop.

A woman accused of shoplifting at the Crossridge Martin’s supermarket had her luck run out when she attempted to carjack an off-duty Henrico Police officer’s truck.

According to Henrico Police, 49-year-old Sandra Sandiford allegedly stole a variety of groceries from the Martin’s supermarket located at 10200 Staples Mill Road on Monday around 1:00 PM. When employees failed to stop Sandiford from making a clean getaway, authorities say she ran towards the intersection of Staples Mill and Warren Roads, where she approached a truck being driven by an off-duty Henrico officer.

Sandiford tossed her stolen goods into one of the truck’s open windows, and then climbed inside.

The officer immediately turned the truck off and, along with a nearby witness, were able to restrain Sandiford until police arrived to make an arrest. She was charged with grand larceny and carjacking.
