Second annual Hoops for Health festival this Saturday
The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club are hosting this community effort to improve health and wellness in the East End.
The Hoops for Health festival is coming to Richmond’s East End; At 3701 R Street at 8:00 AM to be exact.
This free, yearly event is presented by the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, and features a basketball tournament, multiple community organizations, and fun, engaging activities.
From the Salvation Army’s Website:
The event encourages all Richmond residents to live a healthy lifestyle through diet, recreation and education is inspired by an early 2013 report that noted residents in the East End, where The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club is located, face health challenges and a life expectancy nearly 20 years less than residents in the West End.
Wali Jones, a former NBA star turned motivation speaker and activist, will be on hand at the festival as well. If you haven’t heard Jones speak before, here he is addressing a boy’s home in Jamaica:
