It may not look like much from the outside, but a trip to Angelos Italian Restaurant is a real treat for your senses. When you walk in the door, the first thing you can smell is the pizza (and they’re known for it.) Or is the garlic from the spaghetti filling my nostrils? Whatever it is, its good enough to make your mouth water the second you get there. Looking around the room, you see servers rushing about, guests happily filling their bellies and late diners jealously eyeing the filled booths waiting for their turn to eat.

Tonight my dining partner and I were in for a real treat. It was pasta night. That means one huge plate of noodles, one delicious salad with homemade dressing, and two satisfying pieces of freshly made bread for $6.95. It’s a steal and a half…really. Funny, my stomach is talking to me right now as I write this. It’s honestly a little embarrassing. Shhhh! Quiet!

Back to the review, my selection of the night was a simple pasta with olive oil. I started off with an Italian salad with homemade Italian dressing.

They bring a little bottle of it to the table, so you pour your own. Half of mine went on my salad, the other as a great compliment to the bread. Who doesn’t like to sop up sauce with their roll?

My pasta was a perfect al dente, but I would have loved a little less olive oil in the dish. Perhaps some like their noodles dripping, but as I am a calorie counter, the pour seemed a bit heavy. The flavor was quite nice though, almost a bit briney like a linguine with clams might taste.

My partner ordered what turned out to be a huge portion of meat sauce. Angelo’s does theirs a little differently by putting all of the meat on top of the noodles, and not in the marinara sauce. A delicious twist! As if this wasn’t enough carnivorous action, he also ordered a side of sausage and marinara. Totally worth the extra $2.50. In the end, we were both so full that we sadly put down our forks, said no to dessert, and brought home our leftovers to be conquered at a later time. In the past we have enjoyed Angelo’s tiramisu. As with their other dishes, the portion is very large, and definitely a bargain.

Though the place can get really busy, and there is often a wait, I would recommend this restaurant as much for its savory eats as for its kind-on-your-wallet specials. The service can on occasion be hit or miss, but is usually fast and attentive. On the whole, this little gem -located in a strip mall, is really tough to beat.
