Cindy Woods, the pen behind the sketch blog Learning Daily, has passed. From her recent writing and drawings this was not unexpected, but her bright spirit and openness were still there in here final posts:

whether I should post these drawings or not, I don’t know. I spent last week in the hospital and these are a record of those days. I came home on Friday, my battle with cancer lost, and have entered a hospice program. I wanted to let those few visitors here know why I will soon stop posting altogether. Thanks to all who have visited me and left comments, I have enjoyed the exchanges between my all Internet friends immensely and want you all to know what joy it has given to get to know you as we have shared our lives online.

I never met Cindy. From her drawings, I carried a very wrong idea of her in my head for a long time. Her energy and engagement and embrace of the internet gave me the idea that she was young, in her 20s maybe. I always though that she must work in the environment that she drew; the truth of this became more apparent this week.

Cindy’s real life friends are leaving testimony to her impact. I’d like to add to this that I will very much miss her drawings dropping like random little happy presents in the stream of whatever else happened that day.

  1. I loved her blog so much, particularly her sketches of the windows at Bygones. She will be missed.

  2. Wow I totally thought she was an art student as well. Sad to hear.
