Bike party service Groovin’ Gears taking off in Scott’s Addition
NBC12 profiles the small business that hosts bike parties around town.
A start-up business is Richmond is putting a new spin on riding a bike. We told you a party bike was coming. Now it’s here, taking pedalers on pub crawls. It’s a party on wheels, powered by people. Groovin’ Gears is up and running, right through the streets of downtown Richmond.
“It’s a party on a bike,” said rider Melissa Oefelein.
Layne Summerfield, one of the business owners, said “We really saw the demand for a pub crawl business in Richmond.”
Groups and individuals book tours on the 14-person bike, which start in Scott’s Addition and head to craft breweries, bars and restaurants.
I recently took a ride on Groovin’ Gears’ party bike for a friend’s birthday and can attest to just how much fun it is. Worth checking out.

I saw a guy fall off a seat near the back and get run over by his compadres on Friday night. Probably ought to keep your butt in the seat.
