  1. But if you could, it would take three hours.

As far as I’ve seen the closest you can get is around Gaskins, and even that is an express route with two runs in the morning and two at night. There’s no reason that there couldn’t be shuttles from the Boulevard Area to Short Pump via 64.

Their are jobs available in Short Pump? Where?

Are you even allowed in Short Pump without a car? You know that whole not having sidewalks thing seems prejudiced against folks who can and like to walk places.

After a frustrating visit to SP about a year ago I contacted the mall management and suggested shuttle buses that could take you between the mall, theatre, and the other shopping centers around there, not having to continually move your car and reduce traffic.
The Management said it would never work and that people in Richmond would never give up their cars.

I still think shuttle buses are a good idea.

And I agree sidewalks would be nice along Broad Street as well as Midlothian Turnpike.

  6. Do people in Short Pump know what buses are?

  7. I would take a shuttle to Short Pump in a second. I wouldn’t even mind getting stuck in traffic in that situation – I can get work done if someone else is driving. If I’m stuck in my car, I just smash my head into the steering wheel. Not very productive.

  8. Everyone knows living (decently) in Richmond requires a car – even if you don’t want to go to Short Pump.

Actually, Morgan, I beg to differ. Living in the Near West End, I’m able to walk everywhere and pick up anything I need to without wheels. I’ve walked to Target, B&N, Food Lion, etc. I’ve walked to UofR. Sometimes it’s necessary when you’re poor. So, “everyone” doesn’t know. Heh.

It would be cool if there was a route from, say, Boulevard and Broad, to Broad and Pump and then a different bus that had some more local routes around the Broad St/Short Pump area.

I would also like to note that Richmond’s air quality and overall health are strongly related issues.

  12. “it would never work and that people in Richmond would never give up their cars”

The biggest obstacle to people in Richmond giving up their cars is the people in Richmond who claim that people in Richmond will never give up their cars. It’s circular logic, and it does a pretty great job of protecting the status quo.

The Real reason they dont want buses to short pump is to keep the black crowd away! Bottom line is it is what it is! I remember years ago when they were so apposed to having buses to cloverleaf and chestefield towne centre for the same reason! and yeah i said it!
