Antiques Roadshow in RVA this month

Later this month Antiques Roadshow visits Richmond–hope you already picked up a ticket!

Antiques Roadshow, which as we all know is just about the best show ever, is making a stop in Richmond on August 17th. Unfortunately, it’s a ticketed event, and if you don’t already have tickets you’re out of luck. Roadshow will air three episodes from their trip to Richmond sometime in 2014. The press release follows:

PBS’s highest-rated ongoing primetime series Antiques Roadshow, a production of WGBH Boston, visits Richmond as part of an eight-city summer production tour. Idea Stations will host Antiques Roadshow during their local stay. The all-day appraisal event will be held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center on Saturday, August 17.

“We are thrilled to be visiting Richmond for the first time since 1998,” said Roadshow executive producer Marsha Bemko. “We anticipate seeing 5,000 to 6,000 guests with 10,000 to 12,000 items, so I am confident that we will find some great treasures. It is the last stop of the summer, and it will make a wonderful finale for the Antiques Roadshow tour.”

At the appraisal event,5,000 to 6,000 ticketed guests will receive free valuations of their antiques and collectibles from specialists from the country’s leading auction houses and independent dealers. Each guest is invited to bring two items for appraisal. Admission to Antiques Roadshow events is free, but tickets are required and must be obtained in advance. Ticket applications closed on Monday, April 8.

As part of the visit, Antiques Roadshow will also tape field segments in and around Richmond, highlighting local history and places of interest. These segments will take place at: Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, with a focus on18th-century silver; Wilton House Museum, with a focus on obsolete federal-era materials; and Colonial Williamsburg, with a focus on a spectacular Virginia tall case clock.

From Roadshow’s visit to Richmond, three episodes of television will be created for inclusion in Season 18, airing in 2014. Antiques Roadshow, Season 18, will air on Idea Stations Mondays at 8pm.
