Senior guard Eric Maynor provided a nearly flawless performance, scoring 26 points with six assists, while committing no turnovers, to spark Virginia Commonwealth University to a 65-50 win over Georgia State on Wednesday evening in Atlanta.

The Rams have won six straight games. The VCU victory, coupled with Northeastern’s victory over George Mason, slides the streaking Rams into a three-way first place tie in the Colonial Athletic Association. VCU, Northeastern and George Mason are all 7-1 in league play.

Where Maynor supplied the flash, sophomore forward/center Larry Sanders added muscle with 11 points, seven rebounds and five blocks. Joey Rodriguez, a sophomore guard, knocked down three-of-six trey attempts and finished with 13 points, four assists and three steals.

Returning CAA Player-of-the-Year Maynor’s six assists leave him two shy of breaking school career mark, held by Edmund Sherod (582).

The Rams limited the Panthers to 35-percent (17-of-48) shooting to the field and out-rebounded GSU, 31-24. VCU committed just nine turnovers.

VCU (14-5, 7-1 in CAA) returns home, where they will face George Mason (14-4, 7-1 in CAA) in a showdown for first place in the league at the Siegel Center, on Sat. (at 4 p.m.), in a nationally-televised contest.
