RVAFamily: Our newest addition!

It’s a… whole new section of the website devoted to Richmond families!!!

Welcome to RVAFamily, guys! That’s right, a whole section of this here website that will focus on Richmond families.

Now before your eyes start to roll back in your head at the thought of another place on the Internet for parents to bemoan/wax poetic about/argue over things like sleep training and pooping habits, let me assure you: this is not that.

I mean sure, those things will come up; they are part of the family experience for some. But RVAFamily isn’t going to house your typical mommy/daddy blahhhhhg fodder. We want to cast our net deeper and wider than that, if you will. Because, really, the idea of “family” isn’t limited to the parent-child dynamic; our conversations about it shouldn’t be either. Families are made up of people who share a meaningful connection and a (hopefully) mutual commitment to doing what needs to be done to make their shared lives “go.”1 It’s our goal for the content featured in RVAFamily to reflect all facets of family life–in Richmond and in general.2

In addition to serving as home for Raising Richmond (penned by me, myself, as well as I), RVAFamily will feature some new columns that we’re pretty excited about. Each Wednesday the hysterically funny Kelly Gerow will share her event picks for the week in 5 Things for Families,3 while Sam Davies, co-founder of Richmond’s beloved bill conference, will join us every other Friday to share his experiences as father to two young girls. Meanwhile, news updates, op/eds, even more columns, and full-length features will keep you up-to-date on all the family-related happenings, events, and conversations going on in and around town.

RVAFamily is still in its early days yet, but we look forward to seeing where it takes us. And thanks for joining us. We really hope you like it.

  3. Don’t worry, they won’t all be kid-centric. I’ve encouraged Kelly to also include events that are just nice excuses for adults to get a break–either from a brood of children or just life in general. ↩
