From the VCU News Center comes news of a big party:

Oct. 3: Virginia Commonwealth University will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a family-friendly campus and community festival at Monroe Park that will feature live performances from popular local bands, a recreation area, a variety of food vendors, cultural activities and health screening areas.

The Monroe Park Festival takes place on Sat., Oct. 25, from noon to 5 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

… Bryan Brown, lead university organizer of the festival’s entertainment, said an online poll was initiated to select bands to perform during the festival.

“The band poll Web site was a lot of fun for local bands and their fans,” he said. “More than 90,000 votes were cast for 273 bands representing many different musical genres.”

The top bands by genre that will perform during the festival are:

The Taters – pop/top 40
Unheard Concept – hard rock/heavy metal/punk rock
Becky Taylor & Open Fire – bluegrass/country
Earthtone – hip hop/rap
Antero – reggae/Caribbean
