Rev. Al Sharpton will be a VUU commencement speaker

Al Sharpton will be one of Virginia Union University’s commencement speakers at an event next month.

The Reverend Al Sharpton will be a guest speaker at next month’s Virginia Union University’s commencement event. Sharpton is the host of MSNBC’s Politics Nation, one of the only African-American hosts of a primetime cable news show, as well as the host of the syndicated radio show, Keepin it Real. Sharpton’s organization, National Action Network, is a non-profit civil rights group based in Harlem, New York.

VUU estimates that it will confer roughly 300 undergraduate students at the commencement event, which will be held on Friday, May 11th at 6pm in Coburn Hall. Rear Admiral Barry C. Black (Ret.), current chaplain of the US Senate and first-ever African-American to hold the position, will serve as keynote speaker.
