I got an email from Heather Markel from Hands On Greater Richmond this week thanking all volunteers for their time the weekend of September 11.

My son and I volunteered with Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay for a Reedy Creek cleanup.

Thank you for volunteering for the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance!  It was an exciting and powerful day for many of us.  Together we achieved 1,844 volunteer hours with 426 volunteers over the course of the weekend and served 21 nonprofit agencies, schools and parks in honor of the 10th anniversary of 9/11.  By dedicating your time and service, you helped HandsOn Greater Richmond far exceed our goals for this national initiative.  We couldn’t have done it without you.

HandsOn Greater Richmond continues to serve the Metro Richmond area throughout the year, with ongoing volunteer opportunities, searchable on our website, and additional Special Events.  The 4th Annual HandsOn Day is just around the corner, Saturday, October 29th.  This large, community-wide day of service will engage over 1,000 volunteers across more than 40 community organizations.  For more information on how you can participate in HandsOn Day, please visit our website

Thank you again for volunteering your time to create a better Richmond!
