Deadly Overnight Accident on I-295 Kills Motorcyclist

Interstate 295 is open again today after a deadly motorcycle accident overnight. Steven Howell, age 39 of Mechanicsville, died at the scene after losing control of his motorcycle and being thrown off, before being struck by a Chrysler 300 driven by a 22-year-old male from Henrico, according to State Police.
The accident took place near the Nuckols Road exit and forced the closure of I-295 for more than three hours.
The driver of the Chrysler was reportedly wearing his seat belt and was not injured, nor is he facing any charges. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
Police believe alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors in this incident.
