I’m very interested in the developments along the Route 5 corridor in eastern Henrico County and how it plays into the plans to connect Rocketts Landing to downtown Richmond with the Capital Trail project.

See the recent Richmond Times-Dispatch article:

Sharon Payne, a resident of Rocketts Landing who is also social director in the community, said residents “obviously see the need for improvements” to Route 5 in the future, especially with all of the development expected in the region. She’s glad the study is being done, and she and other residents are trying to make sure that any plans would preserve the riverfront and the Virginia Capital Trail project, which she said are among the reasons many have moved to the area.

“People are moving here for the riverfront, for the parks and the recreation and the proximity to downtown,” she said. “Not for the traffic.”

Bicycles and pedestrians: building the Virginia Capital Trail parallel to Route 5 as an option for walking and biking and recommending sidewalks on Route 5 if it is widened to four lanes.
