The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities will kick off National Drinking Water Week, May 4-10, with displays in City Hall and the Science Museum of Virginia.Building on this year’s theme, “Only Tap Water Delivers,” DPU provides conservation tips to encourage citizens to protect our world’s most precious resource.

The public is invited to stop by displays set up at City Hall and the Science Museum of Virginia to register to win a DPU prize pack. The names of two winners will be drawn on Monday, May 12.

The City of Richmond is one of the largest water producers in Virginia, with a modern plant that can treat up to 132 million gallons of water a day from the James River.

The treatment plant and distribution system of water mains, pumping stations and storage facilities provide water to more than 62,000 customers in the City. The facility also provides water to the surrounding area through wholesale contracts with Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover counties. The utility also maintains 1,200 miles of water mains, 13 pumping stations and approximately 9,000 fire hydrants for fire protection throughout the City.
