In November, I sat down with Scott Burton to talk at length about the new album from his band Glows in the Dark entitled Beach of the War Gods. Without a release date set for the album, we thought it would be best to do the interview to have it ready for whenever it would become available for purchase. Finally, half a year later, Beach of the War Gods is ready to hit digital shelves.

Burton has been busy, having recently joined the electro-pop band Amazing Ghost and working with Glows drummer Scott Clark in the intensely technical and minimalist duo SCUO. But now it’s Glows’ time to shine, and Beach of the War Gods is a strong follow-up to the band’s 2008 debut Music To Listen To Glows In The Dark By and 2009’s One Armed Swordsman EP. In the recorded commentary to the music, you’ll hear Burton talk about how film music shapes his compositions and his band members’ dialogues. Every track but one is inspired by a film you probably haven’t heard of — unless you share Burton’s obsession for the poliziotteschi or kung fu genres of film.
