Richmond’s Better Housing Coalition has transformed dilapidated communities in Church Hill, northeastern Chesterfield and other parts of the Richmond region. The organization now plans to transform a section of North Avenue — the 1960s apartment complex known as Lincoln Manor, described as “a 300 unit apartment complex built barracks-style on about 5 acres of land.”

The years have not been kind to the area, but all of that is about to change! BHC has a contract to purchase this property and is ready to do what we do best: physical and social revitalization. Over the next 2 years we will transform this worn down, crime-ridden area into a healthy, safe, beautiful place to live. We will reduce the number of apartments to 243 and build a Community Center and playground. Our Community Social Work staff has been hard at work evaluating the needs of the residents and will begin establishing services. And, as with everything BHC builds, these buildings will be EarthCraft certified, “green” and sustainable.

Thanks to the Robins Foundation and an anonymous donor for their generous grants that will enable BHC to transform Lincoln Manor into a place people are happy to call home.
