The West Broad Village development has slowly started to blossom over the past couple years with residential, restaurant and retail tenants, plus the recent addition of a new Short Pump location of the Children’s Museum of Richmond. Soon, the mixed use center will be able to add fitness club to their roster.

Richmond-based ACAC Fitness & Wellness Center announced plans Thursday morning for a new health club and fitness facility in West Broad Village. The new 57,000 square-foot club will span three stories. In addition to state-of-the-art fitness amenities and group class studios, the building will include an indoor aquatics center, rooftop pool and squash and racquetball courts.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to expand our presence in the Richmond market,” said Phil Wendel, ACAC club owner.

The West Broad Village club will be ACAC’s second location in the Richmond area. ACAC currently operates a 100,000 square-foot facility at 11621 Robious Road in Midlothian.

“What really sets ACAC apart from other gyms is our focus on creating a welcoming environment where everyone, regardless of age or fitness level, feels comfortable working out,” says Greg Wells, the company’s CEO. “For example, our physician referred exercise program, PREP, has helped thousands of individuals with chronic health issues become more physically active.”

Chris Craytor, ACAC’s vice-president of development, believes that West Broad Village is an ideal fit for the health club. “With complementary neighbors, such as Whole Foods, REI, and the Children’s Museum of Richmond, West Broad Village will be a great place for ACAC members to work, live and play.”

An opening date has not yet been announced.
