The bicyclist in the accident we covered earlier this week has died. He ran the red light moving north on Lombardy and was not wearing a helmet.
At approximately 8:10 p.m. Monday, April 12, Richmond Police were called to the intersection of Lombardy Street and Brook Road for an accident involving a bicyclist and an SUV.
Crash Team officers’ investigation revealed that bicyclist Steven L. Smith, of the 3300 block of North Avenue, disregarded the red light as he was traveling northbound on Lombardy Street. As a result, he struck the side of a Suburban heading northbound on Brook Road.
Smith was taken to VCU Medical Center where he died Wednesday, April 14. He was not wearing a helmet. No charges are expected to be filed in this case.
