VCU Takes Over First Place: VCU moved into first place in the CAA standings at 6-1 after handing Delaware its first league loss (60-39) on Wednesday and then winning at Old Dominion (78-68) for the first time since the 2003-04 season on Saturday. The Rams have won five straight and 10 of their last 11, with their only setback since Dec. 1 coming on a shot at the buzzer at James Madison (62-61).

Mason’s Smith Sets NCAA Treys Record
: George Mason junior guard Dre Smith set an NCAA Division I record for three-point FG percentage by going 10-for-10 from beyond the arc in the Patriots’ 96-75 victory at James Madison on Saturday. He drained eight treys in the second half and finished with a career-high 34 points on 11-of-12 shooting from the field.

The previous Division I record of nine-for-nine on treys was held by three players, including ODU’s Mark Poag vs. VMI in 1997. Smith also broke the CAA record of nine threes in a game previously held by five players including Poag. Smith is 17-for-18 from beyond the arc in his past two games against JMU, having hit seven straight treys against the Dukes in last year’s CAA Tournament before missing.

George Mason, VCU Top CAA Teams In Latest RPI Report: Two CAA teams are ranked among the top 70 in the latest RPI report produced by Collegiate Basketball News through games of Jan. 17. George Mason leads all CAA teams at No. 51 and VCU is next at No. 64. The CAA is ranked No.14 among the 31 Division I conferences.

Two CAA Teams In Top 10 Of Mid-Major Top 25 Poll: A pair of CAA teams are ranked in the top 10 of the latest Mid-Major Top 25 poll released by CollegeInsider.com on Jan. 21. VCU climbed two spots this week to No. 6 and George Mason also moved up to places to No. 7. The CAA is one of four leagues with two Top 10 teams.
