Richmond The city is working with local tourism officials and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts to seek a $1 million federal grant to open a regional visitor center at the museum’s Robinson House. The restored, three-story Italianate house dates to about 1850 and has been vacant because it is not handicap-accessible. “With its reopening in May 2010, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will again become a major destination for tourists in Virginia,” said Alex Nyerges, the museum’s director and CEO. The museum would seek an additional $1.7 million from private sources to support the project. The City Council has endorsed the request for federal transportation-enhancement funds.
