The death has been ruled a homicide. From the RPD:

The Richmond Police Department is currently investigating the death of a man found in the 1000 block of Lombardy Street on Tuesday morning as a homicide.

The male, whose identity will be released once next of kin has been notified, died of blunt force trauma. The motive for the crime is unknown at this point.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.

From the RPD release:

The Richmond Police Department is investigating the discovery of a body in a ravine in the 1000 block of Lombardy Avenue this morning.

Police were called to the scene at 8:53 a.m. When they arrived, officers found a black male lying on the ground in an area underneath an elevated section of Interstate 95 between the Boulevard and Belvidere exits.

A tentative identification was made but will not be released pending notification of next of kin. Richmond Police are conducting a death investigation and are waiting for a determination of cause and manner of death by the Medical Examiner.

Anyone with any information about the investigation is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.

NBC 12 is reporting that a body was found under the 95 overpass near Lombardi and Admiral:

The body was located under Interstate 95, off the Maggie Walker property. Police say the tip came from a homeless person that had been in the area. At this time, it is unclear if this is a homicide investigation.
