One person has been killed and and three have reportedly been hospitalized following a four vehicle accident just before noon Friday in front of Short Pump Town Center. Henrico Police say an SUV flew over the median going westbound on West Broad Street at Lauderdale Drive and struck three vehicles at the main entrance of the mall.
WTVR reports that the driver of the SUV had a “medical emergency” that lead to loss of control of the vehicle. Witnesses say the SUV then crossed the median and clipped two cars waiting to exit the mall at Lauderdale and Broad before T-boning a black Honda Civic sedan.
The female driver of the Civic died on scene according to police. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
West Broad Street was down to one westbound lane until just before 3:00 p.m. to give adequate space for emergency vehicles and investigators. At press time, all lanes had been reopened. An investigation into the accident is still underway.
