June 16, at 7:00 p.m. – Call for Volunteers – The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities is seeking volunteers to assist with presenting the 53rd annual Festival of Arts at Dogwood Dell.  No experience or specific time commitment is necessary.  An introductory meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on June 16 at the Dogwood Dell Amphitheatre.  For more information, call Taylor Williams at 646-1437.

June 17, 1 p.m.  – City Pools Open – Visit http://www.richmondgov.com/departments/parks/aquatics.aspx for hours and locations of the City’s 10 free public swimming pools.

June 18, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. – Linwood Robinson Senior Center Open House – The public is invited to attend an Open House at the Department’s Linwood Robinson Senior Center, located at 700 N. 26th St. Come meet the staff, see the facility, enjoy light refreshments, and learn about free programs for seniors age 60 and older. June 19, 8:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. – Family Movie Night in the Park – The Department will kick off a series of outdoor family movies to be held in parks and at community centers with “A Journey to the Center of the Earth” at Forest Hill Park. They will include free admission and free popcorn and candy.

June 20, 8 p.m. – Festival of the Arts at Dogwood Dell – The English Channel (British pop) performs for free in the outdoor Dogwood Dell amphitheater in Byrd Park. For the season’s complete performance schedule, visit www.Richmondgov.com/parks.

June 20, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Battery Park Re-Opening and Summer Celebration – Visit the restored Battery Park and celebrate its re-opening with free music and entertainment. Youth and adults can compete in a tennis tournament and a three-on-three basketball tournament. Also on tap are games and arts and crafts for the kids and a presentation on the park’s history. Citizens are invited to participate in the park’s oral history project and record their memories of Battery Park. Mayor Dwight C. Jones and other city officials will speak and officially open the park at 10:30 a.m. The swimming pool will open at 1 p.m.

June 21, 7 p.m. – Festival of the Arts at Dogwood Dell – David Esleck (jazz) performs for free in the outdoor Dogwood Dell amphitheater in Byrd Park. For the season’s complete performance schedule, visit www.Richmondgov.com/parks.

June 21, 4 p.m. – Festival of the Arts on the Ha’Penny Stage – Jonathan Austin juggles in a free performance especially for young audiences on Byrd Park’s outdoor stage next to the Carillon. For the season’s complete performance schedule, visit www.Richmondgov.com/parks.

June 24, 5 p.m. – CarMax Youth Basketball Kickoff – The Department kicks off its CarMax Youth Basketball season on the courts at Pine Camp Arts and Community Center, 4901 Old Brook Road. Approximately 33 youth teams will be playing Monday through Friday evenings throughout the summer. All games are free and open to the public.

June 26, 4 p.m. – Festival of the Arts on the Ha’Penny Stage – Uncle Tyrone (ventriloquist) entertains young audiences for free on the Ha’Penny Stage next to the Carillon in Byrd Park. For the season’s complete performance schedule, visit www.Richmondgov.com/parks.

June 26, 7 p.m., and June 27, 11 a.m. – The City Dance Program’s Annual Recital at the Landmark Theater – The ballet classes perform June 26. All other classes perform June 27. Advance tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children and senior citizens and can be purchased at the Pine Camp Arts and Community Center, 4901 Old Brook Road. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $10 for children and seniors. For more information call 646-3673.

June 27 – James River Park Day –Celebrate the James River Park with activities throughout the day, including:

            9 a.m. – Man & Nature Tour of Belle Isle (Meet at Tredegar Parking Lot.)

            10 a.m. – River Exploration for Kids (Requires advance registration. Call 646-8911.)    2 p.m. – River Exploration for Adults (Meet at Reedy Creek entrance.)

            8:30 p.m. – Night Walk on the Slave Trail (Meet at Ancarrow’s Landing.)
