It was less than a year ago that many of us from Petersburg saw Wayman perform at Kanawha Plaza in Richmond. Waymon died and left his earthly home and a beautiful family after battling cancer.

The former NBA power forward died yesterday at the tender age of 44. Tisdale, an NBA center and power forward for the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns was never really interested in basketball. The Oklahoma native’s  “first love” was music. A self taught musician, Wayman didn’t read music, take lessons or have a clue what key he was in, he just played. He and Regina, his high school sweetheart, had 4 children.

Citing ‘70s funk bands as his inspirations, Wayman released his debut CD, Power Forward, in 1995. In 2002, he was awarded the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame’s Legacy Tribute Award. Wayman’s musical legacy lives at www.waymantisdale.com.
