The Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities’ girls basketball team won the Central Virginia Championship Oct. 27 in Goochland, VA. The team of eight Richmond girls, ages 11 to 14, beat the Emporia team 48 to 43 in the regional playoff game. They play in an all-girl league sponsored by Optima Family Care, which consists of seven teams of girls from the central Virginia area.

Kevnesha Jones, Monae Jones, Bria Robinson, DaVonni Parker, Toineisha Nightengale, Kenya Wilkerson, Jasmin Mann and Courtney Griffis played on the Richmond team. The team was coached by William Crump, a center supervisor for the Department.
