Kristen Larson Officially Launches Campaign for Richmond 4th District City Council Seat

We must stop the annual battle of educational funding versus leaf collection or public safety.

Kristen Nye Larson has officially launched her campaign for Richmond’s 4th District City Council seat for the November 2016 elections. Larson currently holds the position for Richmond School Board in the same district.

Larson spoke to a group of supporters last week and voiced the following vision for Richmond:

“We must have a strong focus on financial accountability and transparency so that we can support the city’s core needs. We must stop the annual battle of educational funding versus leaf collection or public safety. We can and should be able to provide all of these services,” she said.

“Economic development and a strong educational system go hand-in-hand. I will commit to making sure new initiatives are fully vetted to benefit our entire city and show a strong return on investment.”

“And the most important role of this future position is that I provide you – the people the I work for – with a level of trust and transparency that you not only expect but also deserve,” Larson said.

Larson first became involved in public service in Richmond by serving on the board at Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts, Virginia’s first elementary charter school, in 2009. This experience led her to want to get more involved in Richmond’s educational system and in 2012 Kristen launched a campaign for Richmond School Board’s 4th district. She won the election in a 5-way race and started her 4-year term in January 2013. She currently serves as the co-chair of the RPS Facilities Committee and is the RPS board liaison to the Greater Richmond Chamber. She also sits on the Richmond City Early Childhood Action Team.
Kristen has been featured in Style Weekly’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2012. She was also featured in Style’s top Richmond Power List in 2014.
