Original — February 23, 2016

We’re calling this a homicide because it has been officially termed as such by the Richmond Police Department. Before you tell us we’ve missed one–was it actually a death investigation (often self-defense)? Was it within city limits? Did the person die of wounds received in a different year? All of those deaths do not get officially counted as Richmond homicides for this year.

Victim

Nathaniel A. Bullock, age 26, of the 3000 block of Chamberlayne Avenue.

His obituary reads:

The Investigation

The police detectives have spoken to witnesses who heard a loud argument followed by several gunshots.

They do not believe that this incident is related to the nearby double homicide (Richmond’s ninth and tenth 2016 homicides) from February 20th (see Marquetta Y. Harris and Cory J. Holmes).

UPDATE: On February 26th, the police Miquel D. Olivis, 24, of the 400 block of Newbridge Terrace in Henrico County. He was charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and he surrendered to the police without incident. The police thank the community for numerous tips–your information with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force were instrumental in Olivis’s arrest.
