New restaurants in October

Three and a half new restaurants this past month in RVA.

BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse

October 6th

Short Pumpers have a new option for pizza and craft beer. BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, a new-to-Richmond chain with more than 150 locations, opened on October 6th. The restaurant features 13 of its own house beers, brewed at another BJ’s location, and a dozen or so others on tap, plus a selection of burgers, sandwiches, salads, and steaks, in addition to the pizzas for which they’re known.

Commercial Taphouse

October 10th

Mekong and Answer Brewpub owner An Bui, who recently purchased Commercial Taphouse in the Fan, is almost ready to reopen the neighborhood spot. He’s hired his niece, Thuy Bui (formerly at The Roosevelt), as executive chef. The Taphouse’s new menu includes old favorites alongside new Asian fusion entrées. A few standouts include a ramen burger, a pork belly sub, and a baked crab toast.

Chicken Fiesta

October 14th

Chicken Fiesta has opened its newest location on W. Broad Street, across from the DMV headquarters in the former Cameron’s Seafood building. Positioned almost directly across the street from Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken, you’d think the feathers would be flying-but Chicken Fiesta offers something wholly different from Lee’s. The joint is known for its charcoal-roasted Peruvian rotisserie chicken, but also offers a variety of Tex-Mex options like burritos, quesadillas, and nachos.

Mbargo

October 15th

A new restaurant has opened in Rocketts Landing, filling the space that the former M Bistro & Wine Bar occupied. Mbargo Restaurant is the latest concept from Mo Roman, owner of Pie Restaurant in the Fan and the former Bank & Vault downtown. The restaurant serves up specialty pizzas, subs, sandwiches, and salads. Best of all, you can take your wine to go thanks to Mbargo’s ‘ABC off’ license.
