Short Pump named one of Virginia’s fastest growing communities

The Far West End community ranks 17th out of a list of 114, according to data compiled by NerdWallet.

Personal finance publication NerdWallet came out with a ranking of Virginia’s fastest growing cities and communities this week. Out of the 114 areas ranked, Short Pump came in at number 17.

NerdWallet used census data like the working age population, employment growth, and medium income growth to rank each city or community.

According to the site, Short Pump has a working age population of just over 19,000 people and enjoyed a medium income growth of around 8% in 2012–the most recent year for which data is available.

The area’s employment growth slipped between 2010 and 2012, albeit less than a percentage point (-0.43%).

In comparison, the City of Richmond ranked 49th on the list. Near the very bottom in the Metro area was Petersburg, ranked at number 113.
