RFD goes way up for a kitten rescue

The kitten is fine now and has a new home.

The old cliche is “a kitten stuck in a tree.” Well this Richmond feline decided to take it up a notch, 75 feet to be exact and give it a more urban flavor.

A kitten was heard Monday evening near Main Street Station in Shockoe Bottom and was assumed to be trapped. Richmond police officer Kelly Morley was eventually able to determine that the kitten had somehow managed to get stuck on the 75 feet pillar that keeps I-95 up in the air.

The fire department was called in and after attempts reach the critter from above it was determined that a ladder would be needed, a very large ladder.
CBS6 has the full story and more pictures.

Rookie Migliaccio (seen about half way up in the picture above) got the nod to climb the ladder. “Because I was the new guy, they said it was me,” she said, adding that her fellow firefighters were very supportive and made sure she was safe and ready. She had been training on the high ladder and it was time to put it to use.

The cat was brought safely to ground level and has a new home with Officer Morley.
