Good Morning, RVA: Everything is humid

You did it! You survived the weekend only to be confronted by yet another hot and humid week.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 71 °F, and we’ve settled into our summertime weather groove: hot, humid, with a chance of showers in the afternoon. That’s pretty much the name of the game from here on out this week.

Water cooler

Virginia’s Republican state senators have persuaded one the of most conservative Democrats in the General Assembly to resign, breaking that body’s 20-20 tie. Presumably this will end the deadlock over the state budget and doom Medicare expansion in Virginia. The WaPo says that in return, “his daughter [will be appointed] to a judgeship and Puckett to the job of deputy director of the state tobacco commission”

City Council meets tonight at 6:00 PM, the agenda is available here (PDF). Of note: pursing National Historic Landmark status for Lumpkin’s Jail, a trillion appointments, and the controversial highrise project that would alter the view of the city from Libby Hill.

Skrillex comes to Brown’s Island tonight! Tickets are $50 and still on sale. The doors (and doomwubs) begin at 4:00 PM and last until 10:00 PM. That’s a whole lotta dubstep.

Today’s best headline: Human face evolved to be punched

Sports! Flying Squirrels defeated Reading three time since last we spoke; Kickers downed Harrisburg; 1-0, Nats went 2-1 against the Padres; Heat tied up the NBA finals, 1-1; and Kings take a 2-0 advantage in the Stanley Cup. Tonight: Squirrels finish the series at Reading, the Nats visits the Giants, and game three of the Stanley Cup. Whew, that was a lot of sports.
