Say goodbye to the Blue Ridge Chandelier at the VMFA

The chandelier is leaving but the hare is returning.

Last February, the world famous Chihuly exhibition rolled into town and wowed thousands of visitors at the VMFA with amazing works of glass art. After the exhibit closed the Blue Ridge Chandelier, which weighs in at 3,000 pounds, was loaned to the VMFA. That loan has ended and professionals from Chihuly are deinstalling the massive piece and packing it up today. Flickr User pjpink has some great images of the installation of the Chandelier.

While the Chihuly experts are here they’re also taking down the Red Reeds but that’s only temporary. VMFA purchased the Red Reeds so they’ll be back up after receiving  a nice spring cleaning.

The Large Leaping Hare that had to retire to his burrow during the Chandelier’s stay will be returning to his spot in the window later this month.
