The James River Film Society and its April Festival have brought major figures of innovative moving images to Richmond for 18 years, including Stan Brakhage, the Brothers Quay, Ray Harryhausen, Karen Aqua, Charles Burnett, Scott MacDonald, Martha Colburn, William Wegman, Ken Jacobs, Albert Maysles, and Peggy Awesh. The James River Film Society is a volunteer-run, nonprofit dedicated to the art of film and film as art.
