Pasture hosts special Taco Tuesday pop-up with Hispania Bakery

The restaurant will be a one-stop shop for Latin American food, drink, and music on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Pasture will host a special Taco Tuesday Spectacular pop-up that will feature desserts from local Hispania Bakery, special Spanish dishes created by the Pasture kitchen, and Latin music DJ’ed by Marty Key of Steady Sounds.

“I just thought, let’s do something fun in August when everyone is so sick of the heat,” said Michele Jones, one of Pasture’s partners, about adding additional Latin elements to this week’s Taco Tuesday event.

The most notable additions will be pastries from Hispania Bakery, which opened in July 2011 and is owned by Maria Onsel.

Jones and Onsel met in the early 1990s. “I’ve always loved her cooking,” said Jones about Onsel. Jones said that the bakery’s confections are “some of the best desserts that are out there” and wanted to give people another setting to sample them beyond their typical venue, local farmers markets.

Maria Onsel describes her desserts as a “fusion of Hispanic culture with American culture.” Items like Pepper Jack-Guava Empanadas and Spicy Chocolate Diablo Cookies, some of her most popular offerings, will be available at the pop-up.

In addition to Onsel’s desserts, Pasture will also serve tacos, Spanish-influenced tapas dishes, along with specials of Spanish wine by the glass, and a Tequila cocktail designed by the restaurant’s bartender. Pasture will also serve its regular dinner menu throughout the night.

The Taco Tuesday Spectacular begins at 5:00 PM. Music starts at 7:00 PM. Pasture is located at 416 E. Grace Street.
