Harvest in Wall Street Journal profile of micro-grocers
If you haven’t checked out their sandwich offerings you need to do so this weekend barring of course snow death.
Store staffers know most regulars by name and try to speak to everyone who comes in. Mr. Hopcroft encourages them to share recipes and suggest substitutions. “Our standard [greeting] is, ‘What are you making?” Mr. Hopcroft says.
Harvest (1531 W Main St) opened in the Fan in late January of 2014. Their goal was to provide a neighborhood market with a focus on local produce, organic and specialty groceries. About a month ago Harvest opened a butchery in conjunction with JM Stock Provisions out of Charlottesville. The butchery was a tremendous addition and the quality of meat produced by JM Stock is undeniable.
It’s also worth swinging by Harvest on Friday – Sunday because recently they’ve been producing some tremendous sandwiches. On Friday you might luck out and get this beauty.
A recent Sunday offering is below.

This place is amazing! What Hunter Hopcroft has done is bring some of the very best responsibly grown and tastiest meats, cheeses, breads, fruits, veggies, coffees, etc. to a
very handsome build-out of a location. That the prepared foods are some of the best in town should be no surprise, since their ingredients are not found any better anywhere.
Great place, great crew. Also, the pricing seems fair for the value and not super marked-up like so many other hip boutiques.
