Good Morning, RVA: Don’t let the clouds get you down!

Don’t you do it.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 59 °F, and that’s a number that starts with a five! The highs today, however, will probably end up in the low 80s, and clouds may blot out the sun.

Seven of the children admitted to St. Mary’s a couple of weeks ago with respiratory problems have tested positive for Enterovirus D68, and the hospital has admitted 46 more children with similar symptoms since then (all of them had short, but some serious, stays and were sent home). The best way to stay healthy is to wash your hands and stop making out with sick folks. The Children’s Hospital of Richmond has a good FAQ on the virus that’s worth reading.

With less than twelve hours remaining, the Amazing Raise has…raised…over $850,000 for area nonprofits. Church Hill Activities and Tutoring, once again, leads all organizations with over $40,000 raised from more than 580 individual donations.

Last night, I spent the evening at the Science Museum listening to RTA CEO Joe Calabrese speak about his experience creating Cleveland’s first, and the country’s best, Bus Rapid Transit System. The tl;dr: if you’re willing to think through the details and stay committed to the spirit of BRT, you can end up with something really great. We’ll see how willing Richmond is when it comes to things like parking, dedicated BRT lanes, and finding creative funding.

Scotland votes on its independence from the UK today. The referendum question on the ballot is brilliantly simple: “Should Scotland be an independent country?” Vox has the perfectly titled “8 questions about Scottish independence you were too embarrassed to ask“, if, like me, you are an unaware and oblivious American.

The iPhone 6 (And 6 Plus) Go To Disneyland

Because I spend a lot of time with my iOS devices, I read a lot of reviews when the new iPhones drop. This is one of the more fun reviews I’ve read about the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

There are a ton of reviews out there that have done meticulous work with benchmark apps, rulers and rectal thermometers to get you spec-based evaluations of the new iPhones. This is not one of them. I took a trip [to Disneyland] and used the junk out of them. I had some interesting realizations, I took some good pictures and I wasted some time in long lines playing Spider-Man. If this sounds like what you do on trips then you could find something useful here.
