Bobbie Barajas will leave WCVE after 13 years
After a decade as both Classical Music Director and on-air host for WCVE, Bobbie Barajas will be leaving the public radio station next week.
After serving as WCVE’s Classical Music Director and on-air host for over a decade, Bobbie Barajas will leave the public radio station later this month to rejoin her family in Texas.
“Richmond has become my second home and listeners have become like family,” Barajas said in a statement. “But after almost 13 years it’s time for me to go back to Texas and be with my family. I don’t want to miss another minute of my little niece growing up. She is the center of my world.”
Bill Miller, General Manager for WCVE Public Radio (88.9 FM), said Baraja’s efforts transcended the airwaves.
“Bobbie was instrumental in helping to forge strong relationships with many community partners, including the Richmond Symphony, the American Youth Harp Ensemble, our Ensemble in Residence, the Atlantic Chamber Ensemble and Uisce Beatha, with whom we have partnered for many years on our annual St. Patrick’s Day concert,” Miller said. “We have been fortunate to have someone with her level of expertise on our staff and we will miss her very much.”
Baraja’s last day will be January 18th. In a statement, WCVE said it will continue its classical music programming with current staff as it “considers options for the future.”
