Favorites: Addis Ethiopian’s misir wot

I’ve never been excited about lentils, but then I ate misir wot ($5) at Addis Ethiopian in Shockoe Bottom. This masterpiece of a spicy red lentil stew showcases the traditional Berbere spice mixture–in this case made by family members back home and shipped over to the restaurant here in Richmond. The heat builds, but it’s offset by the tangy and delicate injera flatbread that you tear and use to scoop up all that rich, spicy goodness.

Addis is a pleasant surprise. The food is truly delicious, and the owner is extremely hospitable. A must go to in RVA!
